General Membership Meeting

Attorney Rex Velasquez Sheds Light on Immigration Policy at NaFFAA Nevada’s First General Membership Meeting of 2025

NaFFAA Nevada ushered in a year of renewed civic engagement and community empowerment with its First General Membership Meeting held on March 2, 2025, at the welcoming office of Transpacific Mu. The gathering brought together members, partners, and guests who share a common vision: to uplift and advocate for the growing Filipino American population in Nevada.

The focal point of the meeting was a timely and powerful presentation by Attorney Rex Velasquez, a well-respected immigration attorney and advocate whose work has impacted countless immigrant families across the state. Known for his deep knowledge and community-driven approach, Atty. Velasquez delivered an insightful talk on current immigration policies and their direct implications for the Filipino American community.

With recent shifts in federal priorities and processing delays still affecting many immigrant households, Atty. Velasquez walked the audience through critical updates on DACA renewals, family-based petitions, employment visas, and citizenship backlogs. More importantly, he humanized the legal jargon, connecting policy to the lived experiences of Filipino families in Nevada.

The open forum that followed gave attendees the chance to ask specific questions, voice their concerns, and share personal stories—many of which echoed the challenges faced by Filipino immigrants across the country. The conversation sparked calls for continued education, policy engagement, and stronger community networks to navigate these ongoing issues together.

The March 2 gathering was more than a meeting; it was a reminder that informed communities are empowered communities, and that Filipino Americans in Nevada have every right—and reason—to lead the conversation.
